Crucifix with the inscription ‘Gordon Shephard: Killed in France Jan. 19 1918 R.I.P Magnum Signum Amoris’. Attached notes gives background information to Gordon Shephard. He was the son of Sir Horatio Shephard, and was an avid sailor, hence his association with Erskine Childers. Sailed on the Asgard with Erskine Childers (Howth gun-running) and later joined the British air force in WWI. He crashed and died in 1918.
